Pipi Bed Clean up

Volunteers
Date: 11 September
Time: 9am - 10am
Location: Pipi Beds, Waiotahe

The Waiōtahe Watercare Group is organising a community clean-up of the pip beds, and we'd love your help.

Whether you can spare an hour or stay for the whole morning, every bit of help makes a real difference. It's a great chance to get outdoors, meet other locals, and help care for one of Waiōtahe's special places.

Everyone is welcome – bring the family, bring a friend, and come along for a rewarding morning helping improve our local environment.

Inanga Field Day

Date: 30 October 2026
Time: 10am - 12pm
Location: Waikareao Wetland

Join the Waiōtahe Watercare Group for a morning at the Waikareao wetland (waiotahe Valley Backroad), where we'll learn about īnanga (whitebait), their fascinating life cycle, and why wetlands play such an important role in supporting freshwater biodiversity.

We'll hear from experts, who will share their knowledge of īnanga, spawning habitat, and practical ways landowners can help protect and restore these important ecosystems.

Following the presentation, we'll roll up our sleeves and spend some time releasing and weeding around the native plants established during our June planting day, helping to give them the best chance to thrive.

Whether you're interested in freshwater ecology, have a wetland on your property, or simply want to learn more about our local environment, everyone is welcome.
